This song is what got me hooked on No Doubt for life. "New" came into my life right around when I moved to Las Vegas, when I was 13 years old (and fat). I was initially drawn to the video, which my best friend Mike and I obsessed over (along with all things No Doubt). In my wildest, childest dreams, I'm a filmmaker, and all of my films would be influenced by the masterpiece that is this video. Mike and I would get into fights over who was the biggest No Doubt fan, and what constituted a fan, and how fanny each fan was. We even went to see them in Vegas together. My love of No Doubt can be traced back to my love of my best friend, Mike. I like that. I feel like we'll always have that connection, along with the countless other connections we've made over time.
This song carries particular meaning to me because it perfectly describes the jolt you feel when you fall hard in love. And I'm posting it on my blog right now. You do the math. The video is epic, though, the song's lyrics are electrifying, and it's one of their greatest songs.
Thus, we begin the first induction to my greatest songs ever, a series I hope to continue as long as this blog makes me money. In all honesty, it's one of my favorites of all time, and I'm happy to share it with you. Skank away, ska lovers. Everyone else, enjoy.
