Hi, I'm Wes. Will you be my online boyfriend?
Writing about myself always harkens me back to the days of online dating (like 8 months ago). So, forgive me if I come off defensively or as if I'm trying-too-hard. It's just how it is.
I'm a 25 year old ruggedly attractive (see right) guy from Brooklyn, New York who writes about whatever comes to his mind. You'll notice my blog doesn't have a real title or header that is indicative of any clear direction. If you are looking for life advice from a pretentious ass, go to Goop. My writing philosophy has always been "write whatever you want to write about, don't think too hard about it, and keep it real." This is why you'll find entries that are littered with typos, poor grammar, and perhaps even a few underdeveloped thoughts. This blog is meant to be a starting point and a tool to help me regain my memory from years of hard drugs, sex work, and consciously trying to forget my past.
My philosophy on life is to always be better but not in the Gwyneth Paltrow way, which is to always be better than you. This is why you'll find that the first hundred entries of this blog written in 2009 are pretty awful. I even stopped for a whole year as I was so depressed at how bad they were. That's another thing about me: I usually end up hating what I've written and get rid of it soon after... so enjoy it while you still can. In all seriousness, I am a firm believer in learning from your mistakes and sharing those embarrassing and difficult details on a large stage, because why wouldn't you? This is what I mean by "keeping it real." I am benefitting no one by making stuff up, so the things you read in this blog are completely factual (except what I said earlier about hard drugs). In fact, I wish more of us would keep it real on the regular.
I started writing because people told me I was good at it. Being me, I am inherently skeptical when it comes to compliments so I mostly think people tell me I'm a good writer because a) they don't know what good writing is and b) they are secretly trying to sabotage me to forward their own writing careers.
I am passionate about social justice, making LGBT people feel safer in this brutal and antiquated world, feminism, all things love, museums, my irrational disdain for Gwyneth Paltrow, food, throwing parties, empowering youth, social media, and popular culture. As you can tell, I am a homosexual.
Now that I have completed my OkCupid online dating profile for you right here, I invite you to explore my blog, but not too far back because those entries suck - I already told you. Let's stay in the now.
If you have any questions or have a suggested blog topic, by all means send them my way. Receiving prompts reminds me of writing exams from middle school and I live for that kind of shit.
And, most importantly, follow me on Twitter.
