egguinox

Every year, when it's springtime, my mom makes it a point to call me and tell me that she stood an egg on its end. Every year, I tell my mom to shut up because I hate eggs, and just thinking about one minding its own business standing up just makes me want to vomit (I had a terrible experience with an egg one time, which I'm sure is the subject for another blog). But every year, there is a teeny weeny bit of me that thinks it's pretty cool.

The myth goes that only on the equinox can you do this, because of the earth's axis or some shit like that. I don't do science. So, the day after the equinox, my mom decides to try it again and see if she can do it. Sure enough, my mother defies all science and myth and is able to stand not one, but like 5 eggs on their ends.

And then I decide to check this myth out some more and find out that you can, in fact, stand an egg on it's end any day of the year as long as you're patient and have steady hands and an even surface. And every year, I'm sure science fans rip their hair out in rage over people's fascination with this "phenomenon."

The photo to your right was taken on March 21, the day after the Vernal Equinox.

Eggs are so gross.
